Friends who raise pets should have encountered the problem of red and swollen eyes of pet dogs. Many pet friends may not care much about the red and swollen eyes of dogs, but the editor must remind dogs that red and swollen eyes may cause diseases. The following are the problems and analysis of red and swollen eyes compiled by experts and their analysis.

1. Dog eye secretions: Epiphora is the term "epiphora", which is the most common sign of eye disease. Clear secretions are related to tears, and of course they can also be caused by prickly tears and inflammation (such as conjunctivitis). If the secretions are turbid or purulent (viscosmic, discolored), it is probably an eye infection.

2. Eye swelling: Swelling of tissue behind the eye can push the eyes forward. The eyeball itself can also swell and push the eye out of the eye socket. Symptoms of eyeball bulge (compared with the other eyeball) Dilated pupils of gaze (caused by nerve damage) Eyelids cannot be closed

Possible causes: head injury, bleeding eyes after traffic accident, and infection with tumor glaucoma. Any delay can cause the dog to lose its eyeballs, and a veterinarian should be consulted immediately.

3. Third eyelid problem: Some breeds (such as St. Bernard) third eyelid is normal, but in most dogs, if the third eyelid suddenly becomes clear and prominent, there may be problems.

The symptoms of the third eyelid include: a white membrane protruding from the inner corner of the eye, usually with a black edge, a pea-like red lump appears in the inner corner of the eye, and foreign body behind the third eyelid. If the dog has the above symptoms, ask the veterinarian to treat it immediately. At the same time, you need to rinse your eyes to keep them moist.

4. Congenital eyelid and eyelash problems

The most common eyelid deformities are enorpion and extropion. The eyelids flip inward, causing eyelashes to burp into the eyes, and the eyelids flip outward, causing tears to concentrate in the bag formed by the eyelids, causing the cornea to become dry. Dogs’ eyelashes can grow in the wrong direction, so eyelashes can rub against their eyes, causing eye pain and redness. This situation is called inverted eyelashes

The so-called double-line eyelashes (Distichiasis) are similar, and the extra eyelashes on the edge of the eyelid will rub against the eyes. If left untreated, these problems can cause serious damage and even blindness, and fortunately these eyelashes can be removed surgically.

5. Conjunctivitis: It is painful conjunctival inflammation, which may be caused by infection, scratching, congenital diseases, eyelid tumors or irritants in the eyes, such as dust or smoke.

Symptoms include: when the eyes are red when they are crying and rubbed, the cornea begins to become cloudy, or even dark blue or completely opaque. Commonly found in hepatitis, called (blue eyes). The whites of the eye will then be severely congested, and finally chronic inflammation may even cause the melanin membrane to expand from one end of the eye to the other. If the cause of inflammation can be treated in time, the condition can be terminated or slowed down, and the melanin membrane can sometimes be removed by fine surgery.
