According to British media Chronicle Live, Newcastle originally planned to offer Mbemo for more than 50 million pounds, but chose to withdraw after Manchester United offered a high salary, and the players demanded a 4x annual salary.

Newcastle once conducted a large number of inspections on 25-year-old Brentford striker Mbemo and observed his performance on the spot many times. Originally Newcastle was preparing to offer Mbemo a price of more than £50 million, but after learning that Manchester United had provided Mbemo with high salary, any possibility of Newcastle introducing him was shattered.

In addition to Newcastle, many Champions League clubs and Saudi teams have also provided high-paying quotes for Mbemo. It is generally believed that the quotes exceed £200,000 per week.

Newcastle does appreciate Mbemo very much, but they have many competitors, and Arsenal and Tottenham are also in the competition. However, many clubs were shocked when Mbemo's agency team asked the clubs to raise their weekly salary four times from the current £45,000.
