Porter: Paqueta felt relieved after eliminating the gambling charges, but now he is relaxed

West Ham coach Porter said that after two years of investigation by the FA, Paqueta lifted the allegations of deliberately taking cards and manipulating the gambling market, feeling relieved.

The West Ham midfielder was previously accused of four violations, suspected of making relatives and friends profit by deliberately smearing yellow. The investigation exposed in August 2023 not only shattered his transfer to Manchester City, but also could end the career of the 27-year-old Brazilian. Last month, the Independent Regulatory Commission finally ruled that the charges were invalid.

Pacquerta, who joined the Hammers for £51 million three years ago, was in excellent form in the preseason. Porter felt the player's relief after getting rid of suspicion: "He handled the dilemma with admirable ways. There were ups and downs like everyone, but always remained stable. This was essentially a fight for his career, and now the clouds have dissipated, he is lighter." It was not surprising that Paqueta's performance declined after being accused. He was sometimes absent-minded and even abandoned at the end of last season. But no one questioned his talent, Porter was delighted that he could reuse him, and the club had no intention of selling the midfield core.

Potter said: "We are happy for him to get rid of the shadows, which is a huge test for him, his family, teammates and the club. His strength is beyond doubt, and our challenge is to stimulate his maximum potential."
