The golden generation of the Three Lions is in disarray? Rooney: England is no better internally now than we were then

A few days ago, Gerrard talked about the England team known as the "golden generation" in an interview a few days ago. He said that the players in that England team were naive, conceited and not united. Rooney echoed Gerrard's sentiments on his podcast.

Both Gerrard and Rooney were members of England's "golden generation", but they never represented England in the semi-finals of a major competition. After these players retired from the national team, England has reached the European Cup finals twice and the World Cup semi-finals once.

Rooney: "Obviously we didn't win anything. I wouldn't say that, but I know what Gerrard was saying, there were a lot of big names in the dressing room. I wouldn't say England's attitude is better now, that would be disrespectful to us because we tried hard to change but couldn't.

"Looking back at the players we had at that time, could we have done better? We could, but that's not the case.

"The current situation is that players (from different teams) will train together in pre-season, such as Foden and Rashford. This is a different generation. The most important thing is the media coverage, and the relationship between the players and the media is more harmonious. From the outside, it gives people a better feeling."

Gerrard previously said on the show: " "I feel like I'm not in a team, I don't feel connected to my teammates, to the England team." In response, Rooney said: "It is difficult for the Liverpool and Manchester United players to maintain this relationship, but it is much easier now.

"I talk to Steven a lot now, and the relationship will be better now because you can have a beer together and relax. I get on well with everyone, I know Beckham, Gary Neville and Scholes and you can tell they won't get too close to the Liverpool players.

"But one thing is for sure, everyone works hard for each other, and I don't think that's a problem. We just haven't been able to cross that line."
