According to talkSPORT reports, Manchester United legend Rooney may join amateur team Wythenshawe.

Members of the team include former Premier League champions Drinkwater and Lescott, as well as Stephen Ireland, Cisse, Niasse, Onuoha and Heskey. In the latest 13-0 victory, the late Cisse scored seven goals in the second half and also missed a penalty kick.

Player Stephen Ireland confirmed that Rooney is also understood to be keen on playing after his phone calls were inundated with former professional players wanting to join. Ireland admitted his phone calls hadn't stopped. Another insider revealed in the article is that former UFC champion Conor McGregor has also been trying to play a game for the club.

Ireland has said he wants to limit the number of professional players to four or five per game. Rooney has been out of work since being sacked by Plymouth last year.

Wythenshawe currently plays in the Cheshire Veterans Football League, which consists of players aged 35 and over.
