According to foreign media tribuna, Dublin Zoo named a parrot after Troy Parrott.
In the final round of the European group stage of the World Cup preliminaries, Ireland vs. Hungary, Parrott scored a winner in the 96th minute and scored a hat-trick in the game, sending Ireland into the play-offs. Foreign media reported that in order to commemorate Parrott, Dublin Zoo named an extremely rare parrot in the park after the 23-year-old player.
This is a male yellow-crested cockatoo, a critically endangered species that has lived most of its life at Dublin Zoo. Keeper Diana Farrell said that the "wonderful and exciting moment" created by Parrott in Budapest was the perfect opportunity to name this unnamed parrot.
Farrell continued: "While this is not the sculpture that fans were clamoring for, we hope that the real Troy will see this as an honor. We have always wanted to give the animals meaningful names, and what happened on Sunday night made everything fall into place. It is a It’s a parrot, so the name Parrott is a perfect fit.”
The parrot, named Troy, lives in the same cage as another female cockatoo named Katie, named in honor of Arsenal and Ireland women’s football captain Katie McCabe.
